Who is RF Wood
Robert F. Wood was not only a caring husband to his wonderful wife Priscilla, father to his four boys and daughter and grandfather to his many grandkids, but he was a man who devoted his life to the community of Hudson, MA and more importantly, the youth of the community. RF believed that all kids, regardless of financials, should have access to organized sports and physical activity. He was known to quietly provide the means necessary to ensure no child was left out of participating in youth sports. He selflessly took this burden off families in need because he knew the benefits of participating in physical activity were numerous and life-lasting. RF was a long-time coach in the youth hockey system and was a co-founder of the Hudson High School Athletic Boosters Club four decades ago, when Title IX was introduced, threatening the funding of existing programs in order to accommodate equal funding of boys and girl’s athletics. He organized a group of friends and associates to raise the necessary money to fund all existing programs as well as every girl’s program desired. While other cities and towns had to discontinue certain programs, Hudson athletics thrived. RF was committed to making every youth’s athletic experience was fair, enjoyable and one they would never forget. Twenty-six years after his passing, my family and I want to continue his honorable legacy through our newly formed nonprofit foundation.
