For the past 25 years, my family has helped raise funds for a local youth organization in my grandfather’s name, Robert Francis Wood or as he was more commonly known, R.F. Wood. This year, we are continuing his work to benefit the youth of our community through the newly formed RF Wood Foundation. My grandfather believed that all kids, regardless of financials, should have access to organized sports and physical activity. He was known to quietly provide the means necessary to ensure no child was left out of participating in youth sports. My grandfather selflessly took this burden off families in need because he knew the benefits of participating in physical activity were numerous and life-lasting. Twenty-six years after his passing, my family and I want to continue his honorable legacy through our newly formed nonprofit foundation.
The RF Wood Foundation strives to provide all children the opportunity to participate in organized physical activity. Our goal is to provide funding to local youth organizations and agencies to be used for families in financial need. The funds will be used to pay for children’s individual league fees, camp/clinic costs, or program expenses. In addition to providing financial support to these organizations, the RF Wood Foundation is also developing mentoring and leadership programs to benefit our youth.
